Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Run & Family Walk
Celebrate the start of the 2018 - 2019 Pittsburgh Penguins season by participating in the sixth annual Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Run and Family Walk presented by Highmark on October 14, 2018. The unique 6.6K distance (4.1 miles) pays tribute to Pittsburgh Penguins great Mario Lemieux, and proceeds from the event benefit two local Pittsburgh charities; the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.

Online registration ends October 7, 2018. Race weekend registration will be available at pre-race packet pickups and on race morning.

The 6.6K Run and 3.3K Family Walk will begin and end at PPG Paints Arena. Course maps and other event details will be announced soon.

All fundraisers who commit to raising a minimum of $166 will receive:

Fundraisers who raise additional funds will be eligible for the following prizes (in addition to the minimum prizes listed above):

Raise $1,000 to receive: Mario Lemieux, Jake Guentzel, Patric Hornqvist or Matt Murray Autographed Pittsburgh Penguins Puck (randomly selected)

The Top 3 Overall Fundraisers, based on fundraising totals on RunSignUp at 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, October, 7, will each receive: Two Tickets to the Penguins/Avalanche Game on December 4, 2018 at PPG Paints Arena
If you register as a "3.3K Family of Four" and choose to fundraise, only your team captain will be registered as an official fundraiser and be eligible for the fundraising prizes. If you want to register the other three walkers as fundraisers, please contact email@example.com to register.
By joining a fundraising team, you have committed to raising a minimum of $166. If you have not raised this minimum amount by October 7, 2018 at 11:59 PM EST, you will not receive your fundraising prize package at packet pick-up.

NEW THIS YEAR - 6.6K VIRTUAL RACE:
Registration for the 6.6K Virtual Race is now open! Register HERE.
The Virtual Race is only available for the 6.6K. The cost is $35 + processing fee, and shipping is included to the US and Canada. Participants will receive a custom short-sleeve performance shirt and finishing medal after submitting their Virtual Race finishing time on the Mario Lemieux Foundation website. Participants will receive an email the week of the race with further instructions on how to submit their official time. Virtual Race times must be submitted by October 15 at 11:59PM EST. Shirts and medals will be shipped to participants via regular USPS by November 7.
For shipping outside of the US and Canada, additional fees will apply and will be processed through PayPal outside of the RunSignUp registration process.
Virtual Race registration closes on October 7 and is not available on race weekend.
Virtual Race participants are eligible to become a Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Fundraiser. All fundraising prizes earned will be mailed with the race packet after the race.
FAQs - HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- All participants will receive a custom Gildan short-sleeve crew-neck performance shirt and custom finishing medal.

- New this year! A Virtual Race option has been added for the 6.6K only. Registration for the Virtual Race will open August 1 and participants must register online. Participants will receive an email the week of the race with further instructions on how to submit their official time. Virtual Race participants will receive a shirt and medal after race day and only after submitting a virtual race time on the Mario Lemieux Foundation website. Virtual Race registration closes on October 7.
- No refunds or deferments of entry fees. No registration transfers.
- Start time for both the 6.6K and 3.3K is scheduled for 8:00 AM. 6K will start first, followed by the 3.3K.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Online registration will end on October 7 at 11:59 PM so race packets can be created. Registration will then only be available during packet pick-up times or on race day. No refunds or deferments of entry fees. No registration transfers. Race shirts and medals are not guaranteed after online registration closes.
Virtual Race registration will end on October 7 at 11:59 PM, and will not re-open race weekend.
Please note: The 6.6K is a timed event. Participants in the 6.6K are allowed to walk, but must maintain a 20-minute mile pace. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you fall behind the 20-minute pace, you will be asked to leave the course or move onto the sidewalk. Roads will reopen based on the 20-minute pace.
The 3.3K Family Walk is an untimed event. Pets may participate in the Pet Walk presented by Rachael Ray Nutrish as part of the 3.3K.
PRE-RACE PACKET PICK-UP: Friday, October 12 & Saturday, October 13 – times and locations will be announced soon!
RACE DAY PACKET PICK-UP: Race Day Packet pick-up opens at 6:30 AM. More information will be announced closer to the event.
RACE DAY REGISTRATION: Race-day registration opens at 6:30 AM. Race shirt is only available for race-day registrants while supplies last.
RACE START TIME: Both the 6.6K and 3.3K Family Walk will begin at 8:00 AM on Fifth Avenue. Please be in the starting area, ready to run, by 7:45 AM.
FLUID STATIONS: Two fluid stations will be located on the course for the 6.6K.
AWARDS: Age category awards for male and female competitors will be based on chip time in the following categories: 9 & Under, 10-13, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & Over. Cash prizes will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers. Overall winners are not eligible for age category awards.
STROLLERS: Children ages five (5) and under in a stroller are permitted free of charge for either the 6.6K or the 3.3K Family Walk. Please provide the name of your child when you register. For the 6.6K, the child’s name must be provided through registration of an adult runner and must participate in a stroller. The child must stay in the stroller the entire length of the race, and the stroller must be pushed by an adult guardian. Strollers will start at the back of the field. For the 3.3K Family Walk, the child’s name must be provided through registration of an adult walker. A shirt will not be provided.
PETS: Pets are permitted to participate in the 3.3K Pet Walk presented by Rachael Ray Nutrish as part of the 3.3K Family Walk. Pets are not permitted to participate in the 6.6K event. For the 3.3K Walk only: dogs must have current vaccinations, be safe to bring in public and be leashed at all times. No retractable leashes please. Owners must clean up after their dogs. And, if your dog is in heat, please leave her at home.
RACE DAY: Please arrive early to avoid any traffic delays on race day and allow yourself enough time to be in the starting area, ready to run, by 7:45 AM.
