Make Room for Kids

Make Room for Kids (MR4K) began as a social media-driven fundraising effort by That’s Church  blogger Virginia Montanez designed to bring gaming to sick children in medical facilities.  Local Microsoft employees heard about the effort and decided to lend their support.  The money raised through MR4K campaigns is used to provide Xbox consoles, kiosks, controllers and games to medical facilities chosen by Virginia and her readers.  MR4K is now an official extension of the Austin’s Playroom Project at the Mario Lemieux Foundation.  Learn more about how MR4K started here.

The 2013 beneficiary of the Make Room for Kids initiative is The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center.  The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, established in 1893, is an independent, non-profit licensed organization whose purpose is to promote the health and well-being of infants and children through services which establish and strengthen the family.

Currently, there are two laptops, one VCR with a CRT television, and one Wii for 24 families to share.  This is simply not acceptable.  Funds raised through MR4K will provide gaming equipment, TVs, computers, movies and more.  To find out more information about Make Room for Kids or make a donation, click here.
